Order, safety and security

All prisons have their own prison rules, which contain instructions and obligations concerning the prisoners and the practices of the prison. You need to read and familiarize yourself with the prison rules of your prison carefully.

The prison rules describe, among other things
  • different disciplinary infractions that may lead to disciplinary punishments pursuant to the Imprisonment Act
  • the prison area and the allowed movement within the area
  • the use of electronic supervision devices and other important matters.

They are all essentially linked to the accommodation and life in prison, so you have to follow the instructions of the prison rules carefully.

The prisons carry out regular inspections. The prison safety and security concerns everyone and the aim is to ensure that everyone feels safe to serve their prison sentence there. The means of inspections include, among other things, substance control, inspection of the premises and technical monitoring. Prisoners have obligations, such as reporting to the staff regularly and following the instructions carefully, that are part of the supervision of the prison.

The safety and security of the prison is for you and everyone else in the prison. Therefore, it is necessary to intervene in the disciplinary infractions.

If you commit a disciplinary infraction, the prison may impose a disciplinary punishment on you as listed in the Imprisonment Act. The disciplinary punishments may affect your placement in an open prison. If you commit serious disciplinary infractions or offences in prison, the prison cooperates with other authorities to investigate the matter and restore safety and security.
