History

An office that enforced community sanctions in Lahti and the neighbouring municipalities was opened in 1970. At the beginning, the office mainly focused on the arrangement of housing services, which continued until the 1990s. The office opened the first work camp for conditionally released prisoners in 1980 and closed the last camp in the 1990s. The community service experiment began in Lahti in 1992 and community service became a permanent sanction nationwide in 1996. Monitoring sentence was introduced in 2011.
