Activities

Most prisoners placed in Naarajärvi Prison are able to work and are serving either short-term sentences or the final part of long-term sentences.

The prison arranges work activities that enable prisoners to comply with their participation obligation and sentence plans. Prisoners can work in the car repair shop, metal industry, wood industry, laundry services and helmet repair for the Finnish Defence Forces, property and outdoor area maintenance, kitchen, cleaning, bedlinen maintenance and rehabilitative workshop.

Prisoners are offered vocational education and training, preparatory education and rehabilitative specialist services.

Information on free-time activities and their conditions is available in the information leaflet for prisoners (see below).

Visiting a prisoner

Prisoners may receive visitors on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. However, visits are not arranged on Christmas Eve or Midsummer Eve.
  • Visits of prisoners placed in the accommodation wards are arranged at 10.30–12.00 and 12.30–14.00.
  • Visits of prisoners placed in the travel cells and isolation cells are arranged at 9.15–10.00.

Accessibility of the facilities

The room for supervised visits is accessible, but the room for unsupervised visits is not. Please contact the prison staff for more information.

A designated disabled parking space is available in the visitor parking area. During winter, visitors with reduced mobility should be accompanied, as the slope from the parking area to the visiting facilities can be very slippery and uneven.
