Supervision term of a combination sentence

A combination sentence consists of a prison term and a one-year supervision term. You may be imposed a combination sentence if you have committed serious violent offences again.

Two men are talking with each other. One is facing away from the camera and the other one is wearing a multi-pocket vest with the Prison and Probation Service logo.

A combination sentence consists of imprisonment and a supervision term. Therefore, if you are serving a combination sentence, you are not entitled to conditional release or probationary liberty under supervision.

The supervision term begins right after the term served in prison ends. You serve the supervision term outside the prison under electronic supervision. When you serve a combination sentence, your matters are handled by a supervisor working in the probation office of your municipality of residence. You have regular appointments with the supervisor.

Your sentence plan is updated to cover the supervision term in cooperation with your supervisor well before the supervision term begins. You and the supervisor agree on the goals of your sentence plan based on your needs.

Conditions of combination sentence

During the supervision term of a combination sentence, you must stay in your place of residence as specified separately. In addition, you must be sober at events related to the supervision term, participate in rehabilitation or other supervised activities and submitting to electronic monitoring by wearing, for instance, an ankle tag. You must also meet your supervisor as agreed.

If you seriously breach your obligations of the supervision, the remainder of the supervision term may be converted into unconditional imprisonment. As the combination sentence includes a supervision term, you are not entitled to conditional release and probationary liberty under supervision.
