Supervision and supervisor

‍The supervision of community sanctions is carried in many ways. The main purpose of the supervision is to support you to live without crime and cope with everyday matters.

An official of the Prison and Probation Service works at a desk.

A sentence plan is drawn up at the beginning of each community sanction. It includes, among other things, the goals of the sentence term, the applied methods and the frequency of the appointments.

The supervision of conditionally released prisoners and the supervision of persons sentenced to conditional imprisonment usually consist of regular appointments with the supervisor at times agreed in advance. Supervision appointments are arranged in other community sanction forms too.

The appointments can focus on different themes through discussion, tasks and exercises. Supervision may involve co-operation with other authorities and people close to you. In addition, some community sanction forms use electronic ankle tags.

Supervisor

The supervisor is an expert in social services and supports you to complete the sentence and live without crime. You can talk about your affairs with the supervisor, who can direct you to get different support measures and services if need be. Such services include, among others, social, substance use and health care services and dept counselling. In addition, the supervisor helps you to contact other authorities.

Supervision appointments

Supervision includes regular appointments with your supervisor. The appointments are confidential.

During the supervision appointments, you follow your sentence plan and talk about the factors that influence especially your criminal behaviour. At the same time, you are supported to contact, for instance, different authorities or other parties that can help to improve your life situation. Your supervisor directs you to different support measures and services if you both consider them necessary.

Conditions of supervision

You are obliged to come to the set supervision appointments and follow the conditions determined in the sentence plan. If you breach your obligations, you may be issued a caution or a warning. Your supervisor may ask the police to bring you in if you cannot be reached otherwise.

If you seriously or repeatedly breach the conditions of supervision, your supervisor may notify the prosecutor of the matter. As a result of that, the court may extend your supervision term by six months or impose 4–14 days of imprisonment on you.
